The star of today’s Kansas City Chiefs practice won’t be making any plays on the field, but instead will be found standing on the sidelines with head coach Andy Reid. That’s where former Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil will be today when he returns to Kansas City.
Vermeil isn’t new to Reid’s practices. He lives near Philadelphia and has made a point of seeing the new Chiefs head coach go to work up close in the past.
“I’ve been on his practice field and watched him coach,” Vermeil told The Star at the Trent Green Golf Classic. “I’ve been in meetings and watched him coach. I’m just impressed with how he does things. It’s more the old-fashioned way to coach. He works them hard and makes them better.”
Vermeil isn’t worried about the former Eagles coach having any carry over from his ugly last few years in Philadelphia.
“It’s refreshing to him. This is a great football city. Philadelphia is great, too, but it’s tough. In Philadelphia, they’re passionate and intense. In Kansas City, people are just as passionate but not quite as intense.”
If Reid’s offense can be half as exciting as the one Vermeil brought to Kansas City was, he will see plenty of passion and intensity from Chiefs fans.
