Draft: Kansas City Chiefs Select Colin Brown, T, Missouri

The Chiefs make their first pick on the offensive side of the ball in the fifth round (139 overall) by selecting OT Colin Brown from Missouri.

Scouts Inc. assigned a rating of 30 to Brown and ranked him as the 58th best tackle.

ESPN.com’s analysis:

Brown possesses massive size (6-7, 340) and can be extremely effective at getting into the proper position. However, lack of athleticism and his inability to move well laterally is going to give him major problems redirecting and staying in front of quicker pass-rushers off the edge.

This kid at 6-7/340 is huge, but has project written all over him.  I agree the team needed to go for a tackle, but with Jamon Meredith from South Carolina and Gerald Cadogan from Penn State — among others — still available it seems like Brown was a reach for the Chiefs.  It’s nitpicking to complain about reaching in the 5th round, but for me there was much better value still on the board at the position they ended up taking.
