Draft: Kiper Changes Course

ESPN’s draft guru Mel Kiper has released his second mock draft and has changed things around at the top.  At No. 5 he switched the Chiefs from Russell Okung to another offensive tackle, Anthony Davis out of Rutgers.

Davis has the physical talent to be a Pro Bowl player early in his career, but he’s still developing.  Still, given a choice, the Chiefs can’t pass on his upside, which is as high as any player’s in the draft.  A potential Walter Jones-like presence, if his development continues.  The Chiefs also could move Branden Albert to the right side.

When I selected Joe Haden for the Chiefs in the Fanball Sports Network Mock Draft, I received a sea of emails wondering why I overlooking Davis.  And honestly, it’s hard to argue with Davis or Okung.  Both are massive with a ton of potential and in this scenario are still on the board.

The most interesting move to me is Jimmy Clausen moving into the top 5.  If the Redskins go QB and Eric Berry is taken in the top 3, the Chiefs would be in a perfect position to trade out with a team that wants to jump ahead of Seattle and grab Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford.
