Draft: Kiper Projects Tyson Jackson To Chiefs

In his new mock draft, ESPN’s Mel Kiper now projects the Kansas City Chiefs will select LSU DE Tyson Jackson with the tysonjackson2No. 3 pick.  Kiper’s previous mocks all had the Chiefs taking LB Aaron Curry from Wake Forest.

Expect Scott Pioli to stay where he is for this draft and turn the draft upside down by picking LSU DE Tyson Jackson.  This kid is the best fit for the Chiefs’ 3-4, and Pioli clearly knows the value of a good defense.  In my previous mock draft, I had Jackson going to the Denver Broncos at No. 12, but Jackson fits perfectly with the Chiefs and Pioli isn’t afraid to make a big play.

I’ve been pretty clear how highly I regard Curry and if the Chiefs have the chance to draft him and pass it will be a mistake.  But if Jackson is the guy Pioli really wants and he can’t trade back to the 10-15 range to get him and has to be bold then more power to him.  For me I still worry about Jackson’s lack of closing speed when it comes to being a pass-rusher at the next level.
