Earlier this week, we looked at a handful of under the radar prospects out of the SEC that Mel Kiper singled out for us. Now comes word that the Kansas City Chiefs are interested in one of them, Alabama TE Preston Dial.
Injured at the Senior Bowl, Dial wasn’t able to take part in workouts until recently. He’s back up to 240 pounds.
Dial took part in a workout with quarterback Greg McElroy, who broke his hand at the Senior Bowl.
The 6-foot-2 H-back is regarded as a later-round draft target who has sound hands, blocking skills and good football awareness.
When it comes to later round/undrafted H-backs from the SEC, I still prefer Georgia’s Shaun Chapas because he can carry the ball. But it would be hard to take issue if Pioli decided to add Dial to the fold. He is a truck in the running game and after barely touching the ball his first three years at Alabama showed surprisingly good hands last season catching passes.
The speed of the game shouldn’t be an issue for Dial, who spent five years with the Crimson Tide practicing and playing against the best athletes in the country every day. He also won the “I Like to Practice” Award, news to Todd Haley’s ears for sure.
