With the 44th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Illinois OL Jeff Allen.
Scouts Inc. assigned a rating of 89 to Allen and ranked him as the 2nd best available guard, with only Stanford’s David DeCastro ahead of him..
You can see his school profile here.
Allen has never played guard before and will get to learn behind Ryan Lilja for a year before he’s expected to take over as a starter. He has all the tools to excel in Brian Daboll’s offense and is as solid a pick as first rounder Dontari Poe is risky.
The Chiefs needed to address their depth at guard and despite not being able to come away with DeCastro still managed to get a really good one. For the third year in a row, Scott Pioli knocks it out of the park on the offensive line.
