For the third week in a row, Kansas City Chiefs rookie Eric Berry has been nominated for NFL Rookie of the Week. Berry had 4 tackles and 2 sacks in the Chiefs 23-20 loss to the Raiders in Oakland on Sunday.
As has been the case the past two weeks, Berry will have a hard time winning due to quality competition.
Seyi Ajirotutu – San Diego Chargers
Ajirotutu made four catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns in the Chargers’ 29-23 win over the Houston Texans.
Jacoby Ford – Oakland Raiders
Ford had six receptions for 148 yards, including key catches in the game-tying drive at the end of regulation and the game-winning OT drive in the Raiders’ 23-20 victory over the Chiefs.
Colt McCoy – Cleveland Browns
McCoy led the Browns to a 34-14 win over the New England Patriots, completing 14 of 19 passes for 174 yards and adding three rushes for 20 yards and one touchdown.
Mike Williams – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Williams had four receptions for 89 yards with one touchdown in the Buccaneers’ 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
I think we can all agree who should take home the award this week after he tore our hearts out and stomped on them.
Ford not only came up with two huge catches to setup the tying and winning field goals, but he did it against one of the best young corners in the league in Brandon Flowers. Ford also delivered a momentum swinging kick off return for a touchdown to open the second half.
We’ve seen plenty of track stars line up for the Raiders over the years and most of them would never step up to make the big play. Ford was a one man wrecking crew on Sunday and easily the most impressive rookie in the league.
