The Kansas City Chiefs were back on the practice field Thursday in preparation for Sunday’s matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, but were down one player from Wednesday.
Not only did a seventh player — LB Jovan Belcher — from the Chiefs defense land on the injury report, but it makes five starters now ailing. Add that to Tamba Hali already ruled out due to a league suspension and the depth Romeo Crennel’s unit will be tested out of the gate.
Belcher is being sidelined by a groin injury he aggravated on Wednesday and his absence could push Brandon Siler into the starting lineup his first game as a Chief. Siler was signed last season to push Belcher for playing time, but suffered a season-ending achilles injury that ended any competition for the inside linebacker job next to Derrick Johnson.
The players on the Falcons injury report remained unchanged, but both were upgraded from limited to full participants.
