One of Scott Pioli’s first draft picks, Alex Magee, was arrested on Monday in Tampa Bay. According to the police report, Magee was charged with possession of marijuana and an expired tag greater than six months.
The officer smelled marijuana and searched the vehicle. The investigation turned up a “misdemeanor amount of field test positive marijuana”, according to the report.
Magee, 24, was traded to the Bucs in October 2010. He was drafted by the Kansas City chiefs in 2009 after a college career at Purdue.
The report says Magee was released on his own recognizance.
Clearly Magee was wrong for the Chiefs in more way than one.
When Kansas City only got a fifth-round pick for a guy they had just taken two rounds earlier, it was seen as quite the loss for Pioli. Getting picked up for some marijuana doesn’t mean Magee can’t play, but it helps take away some of the sting from such a quick loss in value.
