Olathe Northwest High School decided they wanted to spoof College Humor’s “Blindfolded Half Court Million Dollar Shot”. In place of money they used NCAA tickets (they didn’t have) as the prize and picked girls basketball coach Joel Branstrom as the subject. The plan was for him to miss the shot, but have the crowd act like he did. Things didn’t go to plan, according to FOX 4 in Kansas City.
Not only did he make it, he sunk it. Nothing but net, baby.
“I really thought it was going to be pie in the face, especially when they put me in a jersey and covered my hair up, I thought I was going to get hit in the face,” Coach Branstrom said. “I probably didn’t really know I made it for about a minute.”
Now, the school is scrambling to find someone to donate NCAA tickets for the coach who turned the joke on them.
It was certainly a shot that nobody will ever forget, even if Branstrom, who does have a hoops resume beyond coaching – he was a walk-on for KU in 1997, says that probably won’t try a shot like that again
“I don’t think I”m ever going to shoot it again, I probably won’t even attempt anymore,” said Branstrom. “You’re (only) as good as your last shot.”
You can’t make this stuff up. It was a shorter attempt than in the College Humor video, but still an amazing shot. Great story by Fox 4. Click over to their story and you’ll see their reporter make an even more ridiculous basket.
