Game Balls: Chiefs vs. Rams

After every game we hand out game balls to the best Chiefs players on offense, defense and special teams.

The Kansas City Chiefs completed a winless preseason with a 17-9 loss to the Rams in St. Louis.  Once again we give you the best of the worst.

Offense: Dantrell Savage

There were a handful of players that put in some solid plays: Larry Johnson, Ashley Lelie, Jackie Battle.  But only one man made it to the endzone and that was Savage.  The play was called back due to a holding call on TE Sean Ryan, but he still crossed the pylon once more than anyone else on the Chiefs offense.  He also ripped off a 70 yard run later in the game, the longest play of the offseason for Kansas City.

Defense: DaJuan Morgan

Just like Savage delivered the only – sort of – touchdown for the offense, Morgan turned in the only turnover for the defense.  In the second quarter, he made an impressive diving interception of a Brock Berlin pass.  The play was checked by the replay officials upstairs, but it was upheld, leaving one of the few head-turning plays of the game (for either team) on the board.  Morgan — still fighting for a roster spot — also recorded 8 tackles on the night.

Special Teams: Ryan Succop

After a hiccup last week — two missed FGs, including a 28 yard chip shot — Mr. Irrelevant bounced back with three perfect field goals and put three kickoffs in the end zone.  After the Medlock disaster of 2007, Succop calmed Chiefs fans nerves about a rookie handling the kicking duties going into the season.
