After being destroyed by the Denver Broncos last season, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley met with Josh McDaniels at midfield for the customary handshake. Instead of a simple shake, Haley pointed at McDaniels and delivered some strong words while the Broncos coach walked away smiling.
Haley always refused specific comment beyond a simple apology, but it would appear his punter is finally putting the issue to bed. Dustin Colquitt told a radio show in Denver that his coach thought McDaniels was cheating.
“I know that it has something to do with the Spygate, the videotaping,” Colquitt said. “All the stuff like that. And I think that Haley was like, ‘Listen, based on that game I can tell what you are doing, and you are cheating.’ . . .
“I think it was just a culmination of rumors and [McDaniels] had been involved in that in New England possibly before, and so Todd was just kind of saying, ‘Look, with the game plan we had and what you guys already knew we were gonna do, this is’ . . . basically saying it was ‘bush, bush league.’”
Immediately after the game I thought Haley flipped out because of the dirty hit that — literally — knocked out TE Tony Moeaki with a concussion. Obviously there was much more going on in Haley’s mind than just the head hunting.
Seeing how McDaniels went on to be fined by the NFL for Spygate 2, clearly we know the “s**t” people were talking about the former Broncos head coach that Haley was screaming about.
