Three Chiefs Land On Injury Report

Once again, the Kansas City Chiefs injury report is much shorter than the league average.  After only one or two players residing on the list last week, the Chiefs list has grown to three but is still four less than the Denver Broncos.

After being held out of practice all of last week, S Jon McGraw returned on a limited basis.  CB Javier Arenas was a late addition to last week’s injury report and was held out of Sunday’s loss to the Miami Dolphins due to an ankle injury.  The second-year defensive back was a full participant for Todd Haley on Wednesday and should be good to return to his spot as the Chiefs nickel corner.  The new addition for Kansas City is LB Demorrio Williams, who was unable to practice at all due to a groin injury.

All three players are important parts of what the Chiefs do on gameday.  Obviously McGraw starts at a position that is already hurting from losing Eric Berry for the season and you saw last week that there was an even steeper dropoff to his replacement.  Arenas is the best blitzing corner for a team desperate to get to the quarterback while Williams plays a key role on special teams and sub packages.

As has been the case recently, the team on the other side of the field will be much more impacted by injuries to their active roster.  Topping the list for the Broncos is S Brian Dawkins, who is nursing a thigh injury he went down with in last week’s win over the Oakland Raiders.

Willis McGahee — fresh off a 160 yard rushing game — would be a huge loss for Denver, but he was able to play with that hand heavily wrapped last week and is expected to be fine for Sunday’s game at Arrowhead.
