Kansas City Chiefs fans have done what many media members have been unwilling to do, they recognized Jamaal Charles for his incredible season. Charles was named the 2010 FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Year.
“I’d like to thank God for the talent he gave me,” Charles said. “I also want to recognize Arian Foster. He’s a great person on and off the field. I’d like to thank the fans who voted for me. I’d also like to thank FedEx. Without my teammates and my offensive line I wouldn’t be able to do this.”
In honor of the Charles’ outstanding play, FedEx is donating $25,000 to the Safe Kids USA coalitions in Kansas City.
Unlike the Offensive Player of the Year voting, in which Arian Foster was the only running back to receive any votes, Chiefs fans know how much better Charles was than the league’s leading rusher this season. That’s not to say Foster wasn’t fantastic for the Houston Texans this season, but you and I saw every week just how good the Chiefs young running was.
Hopefully this time next year we’re talking about how Charles has cut into the OPOY voting and not relying on the fans to deliver him awards.
