It was a whole lot closer than the first round, but Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles is one step closer to the Madden Curse… er, cover. Charles followed up his whalloping of Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow with a razor thin victory over Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew.
Charles advanced to the third round by a vote of 51 percent to 49 percent. The two backs had been locked in a tight battle all week before the Chiefs star finally broke away late.
Next up for Charles is another running back, this time it’s Peyton Hillis from the Cleveland Browns. Hillis edged out Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan in one of the competition’s biggest upsets. If Charles was able to knock off Jones-Drew and, more importantly, Tebow, he shouldn’t have much trouble topping Hillis.
If he once again advances, Charles would have to take down the current favorite to win the whole thing in Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers. The Super Bowl MVP has been destroying his competition. So far he has wiped out Ndamukong Suh (72%-28%) and Sam Bradford (76%-24%) on his way to an elite eight matchup with the shifty Danny Woodhead.
Charles might not be scared of the Madden Curse, but it sure sends shivers down my spine. If you are more in line with Charles’ line of thought, head over to ESPN now and help him earn a meeting with Golden Boy Aaron Rodgers.
