Cast Your Votes For Charles, Lewis
For their efforts in the Kansas City Chiefs 27-13 victory over the St. Louis Rams, Jamaal Charles and Kendrick Lewis have been nominated for Ground Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively. Charles had 126 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown while Lewis picked off two late Sam Bradford passes.
Voting is open now and as has been the case all season, it will be tough for either player to take home the hardware.
Rookie of the Week
LeGarrette Blount – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Blount rushed 15 times for 110 yards and one touchdown in the Buccaneers’ 23-20 loss to the Detroit Lions.
Aaron Hernandez – New England Patriots
Hernandez had four receptions for 31 yards and two touchdowns in the Patriots’ 31-27 win over the Green Bay Packers.
Arthur Moats – Buffalo Bills
Moats posted 1.5 sacks and six tackles, including one for a loss, and two quarterback hits in the Bills’ 17-14 win over the Miami Dolphins.
Jimmy Clausen – Carolina Panthers
Clausen led the Panthers to a 19-12 win over the Arizona Cardinals, completing 13 of 19 passes for 141 yards and one touchdown.
Ground Player of the Week
Donald Brown – Indianapolis Colts
Brown rushed 14 times for 129 yards including one 49-yard run and a 43-yard touchdown in the Colts’ 34-24 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars
Ray Rice – Baltimore Ravens
Rice rushed for 153 yards and one touchdown and added 80 yards receiving and another touchdown in the Ravens’ 30-24 win over the New Orleans Saints.
In the grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter, but it sure would be nice for Charles to start getting the recognition he deserves. Ultimately a rushing title would accomplish that, as would being selected to the Pro Bowl, but starting with the nod here is a nice place to start.
Lewis had the two picks, though it’s hard to imagine him beating out Hernandez or Blount.
