The firing of Penn State University head football coach Joe Paterno is everywhere you look today. No doubt you’ve heard the iconic Paterno was ousted after details emerged about his failure to act when he found out his former assistant coach, Jerry Sandusky, was sexually abusing children.
Though I believe that the school absolutely made the right call and should continue to remove anyone that had suspicions about Sandusky and weren’t brave enough to speak up, it is also important to remember there was a lot of great work Paterno did at Penn State over the years.
I remembered seeing this video of Kansas City Chiefs LB Tamba Hali — a Nittany Lion for four years — from his trip back to campus with his young daughter. Hali runs into Paterno and the coach reminds the Pro Bowler to put some money away.
Hali reflects on how the decision to play for Paterno changed his life, preparing him for the roads he has had to travel.
