Former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle John Henderson was scheduled to visit the Kansas City Chiefs immediately after he was released. Then he wasn’t. Two weeks later he is still without a team and another possible destination is out.
Rumor has it that he visited with the New York Giants and had some kind of interest from the Kansas City Chiefs. Now the Philadelphia Eagles for some reason are letting the world know that they don’t want Henderson wearing Philly green next year, according to CSNPhilly.com.
Henderson has only missed four games since entering the league in 2002 with the Jags so it’s likely a team will pick him up when his price tag comes down a little bit.
After his visit with the Chiefs was canceled, I assumed there was a team that stepped up and offered him the contract he was looking for without an official visit. Yet here we are still talking about Henderson as an available free agent.
We have to assume — for whatever reason — Scott Pioli is no longer interested in Henderson and that is a shame. If he would be willing to play NT is the 3-4, Henderson would offer a great compliment to Ron Edwards inside.
There’s a good chance that if he were in the fold, we would see a rotation of Glenn Dorsey, Alex Magee, Wallace Gilberry, Edwards and Henderson between NT and DE. Not the prototypical players for either position, but no doubt would be improved from last season.
