Following a performance that helped knock Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blaine Gabbert out of Sunday game, Kansas City Chiefs LB Justin Houston has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week.
Houston finished the game with three sacks and five tackles, part of a non-stop assault on Gabbert. The Jaguars signal caller had already been dealing with a thumb injury and finally was forced to the sidelines after opening up a deep cut on his hand. Gabbert will miss at least a week with the new injury.
The three sacks by Houston accounted for half of the Chiefs against the Jaguars and are good enough to get the linebacker a tie for the NFL lead.
Facing another quarterback nursing an injury and an offensive line with tackles worse than what Jacksonville has, we could see Houston put up another big game. And with his eye squarely on the all-time NFL record for sacks in a season, the second-year linebacker is probably ready to play the game right now.
