Justin Houston Nominated For Rookie Of The Week

The secret is out about Kansas City Chiefs LB Justin Houston.  The third-round pick out of Georgia has been nominated for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week following his performance against the Chicago Bears.

Houston tormented the Bears offense with seven tackles, three sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defensed.  He has certainly come a long way from reporting to training camp out of shape after being one of the last rookies in the NFL to sign.

Voting for the award is open now and will run through Friday at 11am Arrowhead time.

Here is what Houston is up against:

Colin McCarthy – Tennessee Titans

McCarthy was good for nine tackles, two fumble recoveries, a pass defensed and forced fumble of Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Cam Newton – Carolina Panthers

The soon-to-be Rookie of the Year turned in another solid performance this week.  He totalled 268 total yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns, including three on the ground.  Newton now owns the NFL record for most rushing touchdowns in a season by a QB.

Christian Ponder – Minnesota Vikings

He lost to Tim Tebow, but the first-round pick put up some massive numbers.  Ponder threw for 381 yards and three touchdowns while completing nearly 62 percent of his passes.

TJ Yates – Houston Texans

Matt who?  Yates filled in admirably for injured QBs Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart, picking up 188 yards in the air with a touchdown and no interceptions.
