Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley has said all the right things this week leading up to his first showdown against the team that fired him last season. Sure, his current players have admitted to wanting to get his back, but Haley claims it’s just another game.
Most people knew better and now there should be no doubt about what Haley is going to try and do Monday night on national TV against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Jay Glazer of FOX Sports has reported that the former Chiefs coach is still at odds with Clark Hunt’s stingy franchise off the field.
“I’ve learned that the Kansas City Chiefs still have not paid Todd Haley the rest of his salary,” Glazer said on the FOX pregame show Sunday. “Millions of dollars. They are in arbitration. Oh yea, there’s bad blood there.”
And just like that, any hope Chiefs fans had for their franchise going forward should have gone up in smoke. No matter what happens with GM Scott Pioli, there’s no way any big name coach is going to waste his time by even sitting down and listening to Kansas City in the offseason.
Why would Bill Cowher, Chip Kelly or any other in demand head coach take calls from a franchise that’s likely calling collect?
A young coach looking for his first opportunity (Haley) or a retread just happy anyone is willing to hire him (Romeo Crennel) will be an option, but forget about anyone with their pick of jobs.
As for Monday night? Expect Haley to do everything he can to hang half a hundred on Pioli, Hunt and the rest of the ringleaders of the Kansas City Clown Show.
