Report: KC Already Out Of Manning Sweepstakes

In desperate need of an upgrade at quarterback, it would appear the Kansas City Chiefs won’t get a chance to convince free agent Peyton Manning to come and fix the problem. The team requested a meeting with Manning, but were turned down according to Mike Klis of the Denver Post.

Chiefs owner Clark Hunt said Friday he was happy with his team but would look for ways to improve the roster, including adding Manning.

After spending Friday and Saturday with the Denver Broncos and Sunday with the Arizona Cardinals, it should tell us a lot about how the Chiefs are viewed right now compared to those teams that they couldn’t get a sit down with Manning.

Missing out on Manning this way also gives ownership and GM Scott Pioli an excuse for failing to once again bring a legitimate QB to Kansas City. They did their part by reaching out, but obviously cannot make him visit.

Manning is said to want to make a decision by Tuesday. If he does take a pass on the Chiefs, we could be looking at someone like Jason Campbell being the the best competition for Matt Cassel in training camp. Not exactly the sort of move that will get the fan base excited.

If the Broncos come out as the winners, the path to reclaiming the division will suddenly look a whole lot scarier.
