Kansas City Chiefs Select Javier Arenas, CB, Alabama

With the 18th pick (50 overall) in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected CB Javier Arenas from Alabama.

Scouts Inc. assigned a rating of 69 to Arenas and ranked him as the 13th best cornerback.

You can check out his School profile here.

In one round of the draft, the Kansas City Chiefs have gone from having only Jamaal Charles in the return game to him being their third best option.  While I would have much rather they taken a guy like Sean Lee to sure up the linebacking corps, Arenas is another explosive player.

With the two Brandon’s starting at CB, Arenas can step right into the nickel and return kicks along with McCluster.  He loves to jump routes (one of the knocks on him) but that could pay off for Kansas City now that they have a real safety offering support.

I’m not in love with this selection, but there’s no doubt that the Chiefs are a better team now that they have Arenas in the fold.
