The Kansas City Chiefs find themselves entering the bye week with a defense ranked 13th in the league, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t still looking for improvements. PFW reports that the Chiefs had three linebackers in Kansas City Thursday for a work out.
Thirteen-year vet Larry Izzo, eight-year pro Mark Simoneau and undrafted rookie Chris McCoy all were in Kansas City to work out for the team. The Chiefs’ special teams have been solid in 2010, but they may be concerned about the health of Jon McGraw, who has been one of their top gunners and is suffering from a hamstring injury.
The person that makes the most sense here is Izzo. He was on all three Patriots Super Bowl teams, so obviously Scott Pioli and Romeo Crennel are familiar with what he can do. Izzo suffered a spine injury last year that put him on the IR but if he proves he’s healthy you know he will find his way to Kansas City.
Simoneau is another guy that would bring a veteran presence. The Kansas native was released by the Saints in March. While with the Eagles back in 2003, he led the team in tackles.
Though McCoy is mentioned as being an undrafted free agent by PFW, he was actually a 7th round pick of Pioli’s father-in-law Bill Parcells in April’s draft.
