Leading up to the deadline for teams to designate their franchise player, the Kansas City Chiefs went from deciding between three players to keeping them all. New GM John Dorsey and head coach Andy Reid handed out five-year deals to Dwayne Bowe and Dustin Colquitt while tagging Branden Albert.
“We felt it was in the best interest of the Kansas City Chiefs to place the tag on Branden,” Dorsey said in a statement.
“We will continue to negotiate with Branden and his agent to reach a deal that is mutually beneficial. We are looking forward to working with Branden in the near future.”
That decision might be in the best interest of the Chiefs, but Albert doesn’t seem to think it’s his best interest. While he was happy for his teammates for getting new deals, he had a simple reaction on Twitter: “Haha”.
Later Albert told The Kansas City Star there shouldn’t be any confusion about what position he will be playing in 2013, despite not speaking with the Chiefs new hierarchy.
“I’ll be playing left tackle,” he said.
After having even more time to think about the situation — and presumably speak with his agent — the veteran was singing a different tune to his followers.
“Not upset at all…..just going to keep grinding to be the best!!!”
