2013 NFL Mock Draft: Geno Still Gets The Call

With the Super Bowl now in the rear view mirror, all eyes are now focused on April’s NFL Draft in New York City. The 2-14 Kansas City Chiefs own the top pick and get to control which way the draft heads.

There’s no consensus No. 1 player and that means a wide array of choices being projected to the Chiefs first overall. The two most popular seem to be Texas A&M’s Luke Joeckel and West Virginia’s Geno Smith.

So far, the folks at SB Nation are hitching their wagon to the Geno Express.

1. Kansas City Chiefs: Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia

Geno Smith is far from a slam dunk to be the first overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, but this pick still makes the most sense. The Chiefs have a desperate need at quarterback, and Smith is the draft’s highest-ranked player at that position. This pick could change between now and April, but when a team doesn’t have a quarterback, that’s the biggest need. This will be a fun pick to debate over the next few months.

Fun indeed. And frustrating. And confusing. You get the point.

It really does seem like the most likely scenarios are either Joeckel — the can’t miss left tackle — or one of the quarterbacks. Right now Smith is the most popular guy, but that could change as we get to the Scouting Combine and beyond.
