A day after the Kansas City Chiefs shuffled their roster with nine moves, they released another player, DB DeQuan Menzie. He is added to a long list of draft picks by former GM Scott Pioli that are no longer in Kansas City.
The 2012 fifth-round pick only appeared in one preseason game, recording three tackles. He landed on injured reserve and missed all of his rookie season before being released just prior to the first full team workouts on Tuesday.
The Chiefs have focused heavily on the defensive backfield during the offseason, putting Menzie in a difficult position to get reps after missing a year of football. He did, however, come with a great pedigree out of Alabama, making it a bit surprising that he wouldn’t at least get a look over the summer.
By my count, 11 of the 32 picks Pioli made while in Kansas City are no longer with the Chiefs. That number is likely to grow as Andy Reid and John Dorsey plug in “their guys” as the offseason continues.
