The Kansas City Chiefs had an open spot on their practice squad following the promotion of FB Patrick DiMarco over the weekend and filled it by adding safety Jose Gumbs, according to The Star’s Adam Teicher.
Gumbs comes from tiny Monmouth University in New Jersey — not to be confused with practice squad QB Alex Tanney’s Monmouth College — is the same program that produced Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin.
The 5-10, 210 pounder signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent and recorded five tackles in the preseason. He was released/injured after the Saints final preseason game.
The young Gumbs will get an opportunity to show off his talent this week with Eric Berry, Abram Elam and Kendrick Lewis all hampered by injuries. As a senior at Monmouth, he had a team-high 75 tackles, two interceptions, four forced fumbles and three blocked kicks.
