The Kansas City Chiefs continued to shuffle their practice squad, this time by releasing K Matt Szymanski and signing LB Quan Sturdivant.
Szymanski spent training camp with the Chiefs and was added to the practice squad last week, despite both K Ryan Succop and P Dustin Colquitt showing no signs of an injury. It’s not often a team carries a third specialist on their eight-man practice squad.
Taking his spot is Sturdivant, who the Chiefs have long had their eyes on. They visited with the linebacker before the 2011 draft, but the Arizona Cardinals snapped him up in the sixth round. He spent time on the Cardinals practice squad, before being released this past August.
The former North Carolina star is the perfect type of player to keep on the practice squad the rest of this season before giving him a shot to earn a spot on the 53-man roster over the summer.
