Chiefs Interested In Exonerated Brian Banks

The Kansas City Chiefs still have two roster spots to fill before the head to training camp. They also have a need for depth at linebacker. Could those two things lead to a fairytale ending to a story that for the longest time was a nightmare?

According to Rick Reilly, the Chiefs have called to inquire about free agent LB Brian Banks. If you don’t know his story, Banks was a big-time high school player with a scholarship to USC before being sent prison for rape.

After 10 years, the victim admitted she made up the story and Banks suddenly found he once again had his life back. That life once again includes football with the Washington Redskins, Miami Dolphins and Seattle Seahawks also calling about working out the former blue chip recruit.

The Seahawks will work him out on June 7th and there is no word if Banks, who the Chiefs contacted on Tuesday, will make a trip to Kansas City.

Obviously there’s no way to know how his football instincts are after missing so much time, but the numbers he’s putting up in combine-like drills will turn anyone’s head. Over 10 feet in the broad jump? 4.6 40-yard dash? Both of those numbers are on par with Chiefs LB Gabe Miller, taken in the fifth round last season.
