We are still early in the NFL Draft process, but the majority of mocks are still focusing on the offensive line for the Kansas City Chiefs. No matter if the Chiefs end up selecting at No. 11 or 12, they should have a shot at pulling the third tackle off the board.
Over at SB Nation, they have almost exclusively projected offensive tackles to Kansas City. Their favorite of late has been Ohio State’s Mike Adams, but they’ve had someone leap frog the big Buckeye. The latest in the spotlight for Kansas City is Martin.
11. Kansas City Chiefs, Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford
What a break for the Chiefs to get Martin with this pick. Martin represents a major upgrade to their offensive line, replacing Barry Richardson. This pick, along with the healthy return of Jamaal Charles and a handful of other key players lost in 2011, could have the Chiefs back in the running for the AFC West.
ESPN’s Todd McShay mentioned Martin in his first mock of the season and now he pops up here with SB Nation. After Matt Kalil from USC and Iowa’s Riley Reiff, there’s an ongoing debate as to the next best option at tackle. I go back and forth between Martin and Adams, but think the big man from Stanford would be a solid pick.
I still believe the ideal situation for the Chiefs still involves a trade, but staying put and grabbing Martin is the safe way to go.
