It appears that former Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson has found a team willing to take a chance on him.
ESPN’s Michael Smith is reporting that LJ is en route to Cincinnati and, barring a breakdown, is expected to sign with the Bengals.
Cincy’s starting running back Cedric Benson was hurt yesterday and while it doesn’t appear serious, Johnson would provide insurance in case the problem lingers throughout the season.
Why is this not surprising? A team that for years has employed malcontents and convicts is taking a chance on a troubled player like LJ. Though this time around they are doing so while winning football games. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
It will be interesting to see if he messes up their chemistry.
What will be even more interesting is — assuming he sticks in Cincinnati for the remainder of the season — how he treats the Chiefs-Bengals matchup in Week 16. Obviously he will be amped up to face the team that gave him the boot.
Oh… I can see the tweets now!
