According to NFL Network’s Jason La Confora, LJ is destined to end up in Houston.
“The Houston Texans are showing persistent interest in Larry Johnson and it’s a place Larry Johnson would be comfortable and right now they have to be considered the favorites,” La Canfora said on NFL Total Access Tuesday.
He later said, “It seems like at this point something would have to fall apart between the Texans and Larry Johnson for him to go” elsewhere.
Earlier in the day, ESPN’s Adam Shefter said the Texans would pass on LJ.
“And now we start eliminating LJ landing spots: No more Houston — Gary Kubiak’s team sticking with its backs.”
When he was first released, Houston seemed like the most logical spot. They are a team having trouble at the running back position and still have their eyes on the playoffs. Another team that I think he fits with (or as much as he possibly could) is the Packers. I’ve yet to hear anyone mention Green Bay as a possibility, but I would expect that to change.
A couple other teams that have been mentioned — New England, Pittsburgh — don’t make much sense, since things are going so well for them both right now. Although I guess you never can discount Bill Belichick from thinking outside the box.
