Military Appreciation Day Sunday At Arrowhead

If you are heading out to the New Arrowhead on Sunday, you will help the Chiefs honor the men and women that protect this country as part of Military Appreciation Day, the team announced.

Members of the Naval Reserve Center and the Whiteman Air Force Base 509th Security Forces Squadron will distribute miniature American Flags.  Fans can also view military displays, including military vehicles.

The Chiefs are joining the VFW Foundation in encouraging support of the Return the Favor Campaign.  The Chiefs Team Store and all merchandise locations at the New Arrowhead will be selling VFW Return the Favor lapel pins, which are also available at area Hy-Vee stores until the end of November.  Donations can also be made by texting “RETURN” to 90999 or visiting

Col. Gary Johnson will throw a ceremonial first pass.  Col. Johnston is the Regimental Commander of the 24th Marine Regiment, based in Kansas City, Missouri.  The 24th Marine Regiment will serve as the color guard and will join members of the U.S. Army 705th Military Police Battalion, based in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas in presenting a giant American flag on the field.

If you have tickets to Sunday’s game, I think it’s safe to say you should be in your seats early.  The National Anthem is always a big part of home Chiefs games, but with these special circumstances you definitely don’t want to arrive late.
