Former Chief Neil Smith had planned on bringing a new sports bar to St. Joseph, MO this year, but those plans have beenput on hold for now, according to the St. Joseph News-Press.
“The plans didn’t work out,” said Charles White, a spokesman for Robidoux Redevelopment LLC, which is working on the project with Mr. Smith. “It was a nice space, but we couldn’t come to terms. So we’re looking at other Downtown properties.”
At a news conference earlier this month, Mr. Smith said he was looking forward to opening up a sports bar and restaurant in the old United Building. But a notice Tuesday on craigslist.org said the restaurant space in the building was now available for lease.
This is a big year in St. Joseph for the Chiefs, as they will open their training camp at Missouri Western State University in July.
“We’re still coming to Downtown,” Mr. White said. “We’re firm believers in Downtown. And we can promise you, it will be a great sports bar.”
There wouldn’t have been a cooler way to usher in the Chiefs time in St. Joe’s than with a Neil Smith-run sports bar, but it looks like we’ll have to wait at least until the 2011 training camp.
