As the Chiefs continue looking for a way to make up for the loss of Tony Moeaki, a former Kansas City tight end got a look from the Patriots on Tuesday. Jake O’Connell was in New England to work out, according to Aaron Wilson.
The Patriots are currently without tight end Aaron Hernandez due to a sprained MCL and could miss another month.
O’Connell spent appeared in 20 games for the Chiefs over parts of three seasons after being selected in the seventh round of the 2009 draft. He made it to the initial Kansas City 53-man roster after the preseason, but was released to make room for fellow TE Anthony Becht.
With Becht dealing with an injury of his own, it’s not out of the question that he makes a return to Kansas City. Even if the current crop of Chiefs tight ends stay healthy, there are only two on the roster, leaving them in the market for another.
