Todd Haley Not In A New York State Of Mind

After appearing on the verge of joining the New York Jets as an offensive assistant coach to work with new coordinator Tony Sparano, now comes word that former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley is headed elsewhere.

Over the last couple of days, the Jets and Haley came to “a mutual decision” according to The Daily News.

Once the Jets parted ways with offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, it was thought Sparano and Haley would team up with the former Miami Dolphins head coach covering the ground attack while Haley focused on the passing game. The two had worked together during their days with the Dallas Cowboys.

There had also been rumors about Haley heading back to the Arizona Cardinals, where he nearly won a Super Bowl as offensive coordinator. With a full staff already in place in the desert and Haley wanting to be a coordinator, it doesn’t look like a good fit there either.

Both seemed like perfect places for Haley to rebuild his resume. He’s good friends with Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt and the two had plenty of success together in the past. Meanwhile, it’s no secret that Rex Ryan focuses more on the Jets offense and Haley would have been able to work Sparano without any interference.

There are still four head coaching gigs that need to be filled, meaning there are plenty of potential for Haley to still land as a coordinator somewhere before long.
