The Chiefs have signed their first undrafted free agent, agreeing with DE Pierre Walters from Eastern Illinois.
Scouts Inc. assigned a rating of 30 to Walters and ranked him as the 49th best DE.
You can check out his Eastern Illinois profile here.
Kevin Murphy at The Daily Eastern News talked to Walters before the draft and he didn’t think he’d ever have a chance to make it to the NFL:
“It’s nothing short of a blessing. It’s hard to not to go on there and Google your name.”
Walters competed at Northwestern’s Pro Day and in the Texas vs. Collegiate All-Star Game. Walters had 1 1/2 sacks in the game with a sack in the fourth quarter against Virginia Tech quarterback Sean Glennon. He finished the 2008 season with 48 tackles (18 solo, 30 assisted) while leading the team with 16.5 tackles for loss. He also added 4.5 sacks, five quarterback hurries, a forced fumble, fumble recovery and a blocked field goal.
Hey Pierre, if you find yourself here via google drop me a line! I’d love to talk to you about being the newest member of the Kansas City Chiefs. It’s pretty clear the Scott Pioli is looking to upgrade the Chiefs defensive ends. Tyson Jackson, Alex Magee and now Walters. If Glenn Dorsey is going to be moved outside as well, there should be some amazing competition once training camp rolls around.
