News: Chiefs Waive K Connor Barth

The Kansas City Chiefs parted ways with kicker Connor Barth today.  The team released a two sentence statement announcing the move:

The Kansas City Chiefs waived K Connor Barth on Tuessday. The University of North Carolina product saw duty in 10 games for the Chiefs in 2008.

Well, so much for a training camp competition.  I might be the most boring man in America, but I was really interested to see Barth and rookie Ryan Succop kick for their football lives.  I can’t imagine the Chiefs are going to just hand their kicking job to a rookie kicker that only hit on 67% of his field goal attempts last year… Right?  Or maybe they feel Succop’s injury from last season was the only reason for his accuracy being down and are going to go all in with him.

There are a couple interesting “name” kickers on the street: Matt Stover, Martin Gramatica or former Chief (even if it was only 5 games) John Carney.  Stover is the only one of those three that would interest me.  If you start getting into the retreads then you are better off with baptism by fire for Succop.
