The Denver Broncos traded quarterback Jay Cutler to the Chicago Bears today for Kyle Orton, two first round picks along with a third round pick. The first round picks are this season and next with the third rounder also from next month’s draft.
To complete the trade, the Broncos also sent the Bears a fifth round pick in April’s draft a pick they previously acquired from the Seattle Seahawks.
Wow, that was quick. Earlier today, I said the longer Denver went with this unresolved the better it was for the Chiefs. The Broncos apparently agreed and have gotten back quite a ransom for Cutler. So much for anyone that thought they would not be able to get equal vaule. Not only did they get the two first round picks they wanted, but also another pick this year and a great stop gap in Kyle Orton. Unlike Cutler, all Kyle Orton has done in his career is win football games. And the Bears can finally stop looking for that franchise quarterback. On the surface, this looks like a very good trade for both teams. Now, hopefully this is the last time we have to talk so much about the Broncos until the season starts.
