The Kansas City Chiefs opened their voluntary off season conditioning program earlier today. It was Todd Haley’s first chance to see his new team workout and included 60 of the 65 players currently on the roster. Haley was quick to point out that he would not, as we anticipated, say if Larry Johnson, Brian Waters or Tony Gonzalez were among the players in attendance:
“One thing I am not going to do is have this become a roll call. Like I said, we had over 60 players which I was really excited about. That is what I am going to leave it at. Again, this won’t be a roll call out here.”
He also reiterated what has been a theme with he and Scott Pioli about starting fresh with each player:
“I said what I meant, this is a clean slate for everybody… We are looking for guys that want to be Kansas City Chiefs, that want to push their chips all in and be part of something hopefully special. That is where we are at, we are at that foundation, building a base.”
With a new staff and system, Haley said things would be introduced slowly and that the team would not have any “class room time” until their camp the weekend before the draft.
