The Kansas City Chiefs have done some more roster shuffling ahead of Sunday’s game with the Bengals. S DaJuan Morgan and LB Justin Rogers have been placed on injured reserve with S Ricky Price and NT Derek Lokey taking their place on the roster.
Both Morgan and Rogers missed the majority of practice this week and were listed as doubtful for the game against the Bengals.
The players taking their place, Price and Lokey, both attended training camp with the Chiefs and have been part of the practice squad for the majority of the season. Lokey was on the Chiefs active roster for the final two games of 2008. Price signed as an UDFA out of Oklahoma State.
With Morgan’s injury and newly signed S Reshard Langford not yet acclimated to the defensive scheme, the Chiefs were facing the possibility of having just two active safeties on Sunday. Rookie CB Donald Washington received reps at practice as a reserve safety this week to address the depth issues at the position. S Jon McGraw, who dressed but did not play last week with a hand injury, is expected to start tomorrow alongside Mike Brown.
Lokey and Price traveled with the team to Cincinnati.
Man, remember when the Chiefs were one of the healthier teams in the league? It feels like that was years ago with all of the trips to IR and shuttles between the PS an active roster.
I’ve expected Lokey and Price to get the call for a while now and still not sure why it took them so long to be promoted from the practice squad. Both are obviously familiar with the scheme, yet guys off the street kept being funneled in to try and fill in the depth at safety and along the defensive line. We should get to see both of the newest Chiefs against the Bengals and they could earn plenty of reps for the final game of the season at Denver with an impressive outing.
