Kansas City Chiefs LB Mike Vrabel was clear that the NFLPA’s executive committee needed to negotiate with the NFL’s executive committee in order to get a deal done. NFL EVP Jeff Pash had a response to Vrabel — and the rest of the players — about the next step.
“[T]he most sensible step for everyone is to get back to bargaining. So we again accept Mike Vrabel’s suggestion that the union’s executive committee meet with our negotiating team, including Jerry Richardson, Robert Kraft and Jerry Jones, to resume bargaining. If Mike will let us know when and where he and his colleagues would like to meet, we will be there. We are ready.”
Now that both sides have had a chance to proclaim publicly how they are ready to negotiate, can actual negotiating take place? If nothing is going to happen until a judge gets involved then both sides need to say as much and shut their traps.
Put a few players at a table with Richardson, Kraft and Jones and work through the biggest hurdles. Once you get around those, you can allow DeMaurice Smith and Roger Goodell to finish off the new CBA. If it all seems so simple, it’s because it is.
Let’s get a deal done!
