The Kansas City Chiefs should have no shortage of players available for them to draft with the No. 11 pick in the first round that can step in and have an impact immediately. Could GM Scott Pioli bypass all of those and instead take a guy he will have to wait on?
That’s the feeling over at SB Nation, where their latest mock draft is projecting the Chiefs will select the big man Dontari Poe from Memphis.
11. Kansas City Chiefs, Dontari Poe, NT, Memphis
Offensive linemen have been the pick here for some time, but there’s value to be had at that position later in the draft. Poe’s potential will make it hard for Kansas City to pass over the Memphis product. Romeo Crennel has to feel good about his staff’s ability to develop a player who could be among the game’s elite defensive linemen in a few years. They could also swing a deal for a quarterback.
Poe has shown off his raw ability during the draft process, but I still can’t get on board with this pick. There too many questions about the competition he faced and his drive while at Memphis.
There are far too many safe picks that can help this team get back to the top of the AFC West in 2012 to take a risk with Poe.
