Back in 2003, when Clinton Portins was a Bronco he torched the Chiefs for over 200 yards and five touchdowns in a game. Following the game he held up a WWE-style belt to show he was the best running back in the NFL. Will we see the belt return this week?
“I would love to pull out the belt,” said Portis, who is 10th in the league in rushing. “I would love to have a game where I could pull out the belt. But around here that’s the furthest idea from my mind. Finding a way to win first is really the concern.”
Like Larry Johnson, Portis has much bigger problems than worrying about any sort of belt. Sure, he has had a better go of it than LJ, but barely. Johnson has carried the ball 93 times for 226 yards with no touchdowns and a 2.4 average. Portis has totaled 338 yards on 91 carries for a 3.7 average and picked up his first touchdown last week against the Panthers.
That Denver game still bugs me in a special sort of way. Outside of a Chiefs victory Sunday, the only thing I want to see is Portis get completely shutdown.
