5. Kansas City Chiefs
Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa
Scott Pioli factors a lot more than height, weight and speed into his evaluation and he gets a very solid tackle who can be plugged in for 10 years. (Previous pick: Bulaga; second round: Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma and Morgan Burnett, S, Georgia Tech)
It was a month ago that Kirwan first mentioned the possibility of Pioli bringing his friend Kirk Ferentz’s standout tackle to Kansas City. In fact, of his five mock drafts, he has had Bulaga coming off the board at No. 5 in all but one (Russell Okung was the selection).
Last year there was no way the Chiefs were going to select Tyson Jackson third overall… until they did. Are we seeing history repeat itself with Bulaga?
In this latest scenario, both Gerald McCoy and Eric Berry are on the board due to the Redskins taking Oklahoma OT Trent Williams. If either Ndamukong Suh or McCoy are available for the Chiefs along with Jimmy Clausen and Berry, the Chiefs should be able to do what they weren’t able to last season: trade down.
