When the Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Denver Broncos 17-9 Sunday, they took away a handful of moral (also known as meaningless) victories. One is they were able to outperform the expectations of Las Vegas oddsmakers.
The Chiefs found themselves as 10.5 point home underdogs, but only lost by eight! Sure, they only covered because the Broncos kicked a field goal late instead of pushing the envelope to try and get in the end zone. Still, you had a winner if you put your money on Kansas City.
That effort wasn’t enough to turn the Chiefs into favorites this week, as they find themselves as three point underdogs back at Arrowhead. Worse yet, it’s against a three-win Carolina Panthers team, though it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise considering the Chiefs have been underdogs in all but one of their games this season.
The Panthers picked up two of their three wins and are 4-1 against the spread this season on the road, while the Chiefs have yet to win and are 2-4 ATS at Arrowhead.
Despite not getting their doors blown out by Peyton Manning and the Broncos, I have zero faith in Kansas City pulling out a victory or even keeping things close Sunday. Cam Newton and the Panthers should win and help the Chiefs get closer to locking down the top pick in April’s draft.
