Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice had a big decision to make on Tuesday. He won a coin flip with Deion Sanders for the right to choose his team captain duo: Drew Brees and Robert Quinn or JJ Watt and Jamaal Charles.
Rice passed over the league’s most valuable player not named Manning and instead opted for Brees and Quinn.
Charles’ co-captain had some very strong words for Rice after the snub.
“Don’t think we forgot Jerry picked them first,” Watt joked during the press conference.
Once he got passed over, Charles got right to work helping Sanders put together a winning squad. What better way than to lock in a major anchor for the middle of the defensive line?
With a nod from the Chiefs running back, “Team Sanders” selected Kansas City defensive lineman Dontari Poe, choosing him over Kyle Williams of the Buffalo Bills.
With both lines, fullback and special teams players/punters taken care of, the two sides will get together Wednesday night at 8pm live on NFL Network to fill out their squads. That’s when we will get to see where the rest of the eight Chiefs will end up for Sunday’s game.
