Following Chiefs practice in Kansas City today, Matt Cassel met with the media. Here are the highlights:
Was that one of the most intense indoor workouts you’ve ever had?
“That’s exactly what it was. We got in there and we got after it today. We had a nice long practice, we were in the bubble, thankfully, because it is raining outside, but we had a great practice today.”
On the Cowboys defense:
“Well I think they’re a big, big, powerful group. You talk about LB DeMarcus Ware, LB (Anthony) Spencer and NT (Jay) Ratliff, they’ve got a very powerful front seven and they do a great job of stopping the run and creating pressure on the passer. They’re good in the secondary as well. But at the same time, like any defense, as long as you do your job and get hats on hats, you’ll have the ability to run the ball and hopefully we can throw the ball. Denver was a great example of that. They made big play opportunities when they had them. We’ve got to try and capitalize on those when those opportunities come up.”
A lot of people are waiting for your breakout game. Are you getting anxious for that, is it frustrating for you?
“Well, I would love to throw for 350 yards and have a big breakout game as well. I think if that happens we’re going to be winning a football game as well. I think more important than stats and more important than anything like that is to get a ‘W’ on the board, and that’s really what we’re looking for. Stats will come and stats will come with production, but at the same time, the biggest thing for this team is getting a W on the board, more than anything else.”
Coach said he wants to look at this season as 0-0 now. Is that so that guys don’t see the accumulation and let it start to beat them down?
“We can’t let it beat us down. We can’t start giving up four games into the season. There’s a lot of football to be played and we just have to continue to work hard and get better as a team.”
