The Kansas City Chiefs might not be facing off against the Oakland Raiders backup QB after all this weekend. Instead, it looks like they could see recently retired Carson Palmer.
According to Jay Glazer, the Raiders are expected to acquire the veteran QB from the Cincinnati Bengals for a package of draft picks.
The Raiders & Bengals are close to a trade that would send Carson Palmer to OAK for a first-rounder in 2012 and a conditional pick in future
Even though most had expected Bengals owner Mike Brown to sit on Palmer, I don’t think anyone thought they’d get offered a first-round pick plus addition compensation. Raiders head coach Hue Jackson also reportedly worked Brown hard to get him open to a trade of Palmer.
Give Oakland credit for pulling off a classic “Al Davis move”, even though they will now be nearly without any picks in the 2012 draft. They needed a quarterback and went out and made it happen but as it stands now will not make a selection in April’s draft until the fifth round.
